Committed to Advocacy for Students, Families, and Inclusive Education.

Norman, OK — Longtime Norman resident, special education advocate, and community leader Tori Collier has officially announced her candidacy for the Norman Public School (NPS) Board. With over 26 years in the Norman community and a deep background in public service, Collier is driven by her commitment to ensuring every student and family in Norman is represented and supported.

As a mother of three, including a child currently attending Irving Middle School as well as a child with special needs, Collier brings a unique perspective to her campaign. “Every child deserves a safe, inclusive learning environment and a strong advocate who understands their needs,” says Collier. Her career in communications and mental health advocacy, coupled with her work as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), positions her as a strong, empathetic voice for students and families in Norman.

Collier emphasizes the need for increased support for special education, drawing on her personal experience as a mother and as a dedicated advocate. “Every student has the right to a quality education that empowers them to thrive, and I am committed to ensuring resources and representation for students with special needs,” said Collier. Furthermore, her extensive experience in mental health— including six years with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services—has shown her the importance of prioritizing mental health in schools. “Our children’s mental well-being is paramount,” she asserts, pledging to promote programs that provide essential mental health support for both students and families.

Collier’s focus also includes empowering family and community engagement. As a mother navigating the school system firsthand, she understands the challenges and aspirations of parents throughout the district and pledges to be a steadfast advocate for all. Additionally, she recognizes the need for secure, supportive environments, addressing school safety comprehensively to ensure students feel protected physically, mentally, and emotionally in their schools.

Her extensive community involvement includes serving on multiple local and state committees, such as the Norman Public Schools Special Services Stakeholder Committee and the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council. Currently, she works with Evolution Foundation to support behavioral health initiatives in Oklahoma, further underscoring her dedication to community wellness.

“I’m running for the NPS School Board to make a difference in the lives of students and families across Norman,” Collier says. “With a focus on education, mental health, and safety, I am committed to building a brighter, more inclusive future for all our children.”
